2024-2025 APPLICATION INFORMATION

Native Sons Literacy is proud to once again announce the Native Sons Literacy Power and Potential Scholarship, an award granted to young people about to enroll in college. This scholarship was established by Keith LaMar in 2023 and includes a $500, $300, and $200 prize, plus a small appliance (to be determined according to need and school rules) to take to college. We are now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 academic year through August 29, 2024.

First-time college students seeking an undergraduate degree in any field of study are encouraged to submit an essay of up to 1,000 words for consideration. Applications should include the following:

• Your legal name, age, and contact information (email, phone, mailing address)

• High school you graduated from and graduation year

• The college you will be attending and the major you will pursue (if decided)

• A statement about your aspirations and how you believe this financial assistance will help you to better reach your dreams

• Anything else you would like us to consider about you, for example a moment that demonstrates good character, a personal victory / overcoming a challenge, an exceptional circumstance / need, etc.

We here at Native Sons believe that what we project and reflect to the universe will be returned to us, therefore this essay provides an opportunity to declare yourself in the form of a personal mission statement. Please tell us what you intend to do with your power and potential to make the world a better place. There are no losers in this exercise! All you need do is speak / write from your heart, and the universe will respond. Declare yourself now before you embark!

Godspeed on your journey,

~~Keith LaMar, scholarship chairperson

The scholarship chairperson and/or committee will consider and select those scholars whose essays best demonstrate a distinguished and excellent determination to use their power and potential to leave the world better than they found it.

Please email your completed application to: info@keithlamar.org

The deadline for consideration is 11:59 PM (EST) of August 29, 2024. The chosen recipients will be announced after midday (EST) on September 1, 2024, both here and on the @justiceforkeithlamar social media pages, as well as by phone.
